Established in 1989, the Council for Health and Development is the national organization of Community-Based Health Programs (CBHPs) in the Philippines. CBHP started in 1973 in the midst of martial rule when people deprived of basic social services, especially health care. With more than 60 member programs, individuals, and institutions under its fold, CHD celebrates more than four decades of working for people’s health and struggling for social change.

The national secretariat is CHD’s center for coordination and resources. Its task are threefold:

Assistance to CBHP Work

It provides support to member programs and facilitates needs such as education, training, financial, and organizational needs.

Networking and Organizing

It organizes and mobilizes health students, professionals, institutions, and individuals to draw their interest towards the CBHPs and motivates them to put their skills and knowledge to the people who need them most.

Advocacy Work

It promotes the CBHP’s alternative approach to health and acts as the national center for people’s health issues.
