Physicians urge PRC to revoke the professional license of Dr. Lorraine Marie T. Badoy

Manila – Medical doctors trooped to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in Paredes St., Sampaloc, Manila today to attend the pre-trial hearing for their complaint filed before the Commission versus Dr. Lorraine Marie T. Badoy for her malicious statements against Dr. Ma. Natividad “Naty” Castro, a licensed physician and community medical practitioner, by calling Dr. Castro an active member, recruiter, trainer and fundraiser of the CPP-NPA-NDF.

“Dr. Badoy’s statements pose as threat to the lives, liberty, security and safety of the other licensed physicians and community medical practitioners,” said Dr. Eleanor Jara, a community physician and one of the complainants in the case.

Moreover, the doctors said that Dr. Badoy’s actions go against the fundamental ethical principles and the professional responsibilities of a physician towards their colleagues and the medical profession. “By spewing statements teeming with malice and purposely putting the life and safety of a colleague at risk,” added Dr. Jara.

“We urge the PRC Board of Medicine to carefully study the facts and act swiftly on our complaint. We call on the PRC to revoke the license of Dr. Badoy and that she be meted the penalties for her unethical and unprofessional conduct of a physician in violation of the provisions of the Revised Code of Ethics of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) and the PRC,” said Dr. Jara. In conclusion, Dr. Badoy’s ‘paranoid delusions’ does not only endanger a fellow professional but endanger the lives and safety of patients because her statements create a climate of fear among the medical community and negatively impact doctors’ choices to serve in far-flung and vulnerable communities. Jara, dela Paz and Dasmarinas stated that “doctors should be able to practice their profession with honor and without fear of reprisal in the service of humanity.”##
