The Negros Island Health Integrated Program for Community Development (NIHIPCD), Council for Health and Development (CHD), Franciscan Brothers of the Franciscan Mountain Clinics, Iglesia Filipiniana Independiente (IFI), KAUGMAON, and Guihulngan Community Health Workers Association conducted a medical and psycho-social mission for the communities in Brgy. Tacpao, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental.
The organizers partnered with the Guihulngan Local Government Unit, Rotaract of Bacolod Marapara, volunteer nurses from Bacolod, Community Medicine Development Foundation (COMMED), and volunteers from the University of the Philippines-Manila in order to bring medical services, stress and trauma debriefing for children and adults, and relief to Brgy. Tacpao and the surrounding communities.
Dr. Magdalena Barcelon, Chairperson of the Board of CHD, said that “We conducted this psychosocial and medical mission in response to the request of communities in and around Brgy. Tacpao through their people’s organization”. Communities in Guihulngan experienced various natural and human-made disasters with earthquakes and intense militarization as the most traumatic events in recent years. ##
